Daily Status Report as of 309/1200Z.

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Complete HSP/POL 1098 (Remnant Stars in supernova Remnants)

The High Speed Photometer was used to attempt to locate the remnant
pulsar associated with supernova SN1987A. The observations was
monitored, received, and displayed in real-time. Except for one
recentering event, the observations was reported to be normal.

1.2 Completed FOS/RD 4784 (Transition Comets: UV Search for OH)

The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make spectral observations
looking for OH emission line at 3085 A0 on the asteroid ELSA. The
asteroid has some properties of looking like a comet. This proposal
is an amateur proposal submitted by Hareld Schenk of the Sheboygan
Astronomical Society. The observations were executed as scheduled,
and no problems were reported.

1.3 Completed FOS/RD 4581 (Quasar Absorption Line Survey - Cycle 3 High)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make two
observations of quasar UM18 to learn more about the origin and
evolution of gas clouds along the line of sight of this target. Both
observations were received and displayed. No problems were noted.

1.4 Completed WFC 5013 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: WFC Flat Narrow. 2)

The Wide Field Camera was used to make Earth flat calibration images
to be used for flat fielding of WFC observations. The observations
used the narrow band filters, both with and without neutral density
filters. The OSS Monitored the observations and assessed the data
quality. No anomalies were reported.

1.5 Completed Five Sets of WFC/PC 4381 (HST Medium - Deep Survey - Cycle
3)

The Wide Field Camera was used to make one set of medium-deep high
latitude sky survey observations taken in parallel with the prime
science observations. The observation was executed as scheduled, and
no problems were reported.

1.6 Completed WF/PC 5014 (WF/PC Cycle 3 Calibration: PC Flats Narrow.
2)

The Planetary Camera was used to make standard Earth calibrations
images for flat fielding of PC observations. Medium and narrow
filters were used, with and without neutral density filters. The
observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were
reported.

1.7 Completed FGS 4893 (Orbital Motions of Close Binary Stars - Cycle 3
High)

Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to make astrometric observations of
the binary star system GLIESE-568 to obtain its orbital elements.
These observations are important since most of the estimates of
stellar mass are made by observing elements of these systems. The
astrometry was monitored and no problems were seen in the telemetry.

1.8 Completed FOC/96 3728 (Imaging of Hot Stellar Content of Early Type
Galaxies)

The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of
galaxy NGC-2681. These observations are taken in conjunction with
longer wavelength ground based observations to measure the spectral
energy distribution as a function of radial distance. Also,
observations were made looking for clumsiness in ultraviolet
radiation that might be present around any possible hot young stars.
A total of two observations were received and displayed. No
anomalies were noted.

1.9 Completed WFC 4849 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program - Cycle 3
High)

The Wide Field Camera was used to make high latitude sky survey
observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations.
The observations were executed as planned, and no problems were
reported.

1.10 Completed FOS/BL 4212 (Internal Wavelength Calibration)

The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make wavelength
calibration observations for every disperser-detector combination,
to monitor the stability of the FOS wave-lenght scale. A total 11
observations were made. They all were received and displayed. No
anomalies were noted.

1.11 Completed FGS 4669 (Interferometric Search for Multiplicity of Near
Small Asteroids)

FGS #3 was used to make observations of the near-Earth asteroid
Eros to scan for possible companions. The observations was made as
the asteroid passed near Earth. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no problems were reported.

1.12 Completed FOS/BL 3791 (Quasar Absorption Line Survey: Cycle 2
Observations)

The Faint object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make
observations of quasar PKS0003+15. This is a continuation of
proposal FOS 2424. The OSS monitored the observations and assessed
the data quality. No anomalies were reported.
