HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE
DAILY REPORT #1249

PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z
Daily Status Report as of 294/0000Z

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5563 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration
Monitor 1: UV /OPT STD.)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration images of
ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582 and monitor the photometric
stability and quantum efficiency of the WF/PC-2. The observations
were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.2 Completed FGS 5316 (Masses of Pre-Main Sequence Stars: Cycle 4
Medium)

The Fine Guidance Sensors were used in the TRANS Mode to make
astrometric observations of the pre-main sequence binary star GN-Tau
in the Taurus star forming region. The FGS data will provide the
apparent orbits. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no
anomalies were noted.

1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 High, High
Galactic Latitude)

The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations
to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep
sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no
problems were reported.

1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby
AGNs)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby
active galactic nuclei of MARK3, MGC8-11-11 and PKS2152-69 to study
the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the
interstellar matter in their AGNs. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5493 (Synoptic Monitoring of Seasonal Phenomena
on Mars: Cycle 4 Medium)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the planet Mars at
selected seasons, looking for periodic changes. The observations
were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5663 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Calibration
Monitor: Fields Part 2)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of globular cluster
NGC-6752 with various filters in order to check the photometric
calibration of the WF/PC-2. The observations were completed as
planned, and no anomalies were reported.

1.7 Completed HRS/2 5468 (The Mass of the White Dwarf of V471 Tauri:
Cycle 4 Medium)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side 2) was used to observe the
white dwarf in the eclipsing binary system, V471 Tau. The
observations were made when the target was at positions of greatest
elongations on each side of the companion star. The target's
velocity curve was found from the strong Lyman Alpha absorption, and
will be used to calculate the mass. The observations completed with
no reported problems.

1.8 Completed GHRS/2 5671 (GHRS Dark Noise Monitor: Cycle 4)

The High Resolution spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make dark
calibration images. These were strictly internal tests for routine
monitoring of detector dark noise. The observations were executed
as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.9 Completed FGS 5657 (Duplicity Among Hyades Stars: Cycle 4 High)

The FGSs (TRANS-Mode) were used to make astrometric observations of
star VA677 located in the Hyades cluster in an attempt to find a
close binary. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no
anomalies were noted.

1.10 Completed GHRS/2 5503 (Absorption Line Studies Toward BD+38D2182
and HD93521)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make
absorption line observations of the galactic halo by looking toward
star BD-38D2182. A wavelength calibration image was also taken. The
observations were completed as planned, and no problems were
reported.
