PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 10/06/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 10/10/95

Daily Status Report as of 283/0000Z

1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed FOC/96 6160 (FOC Cycle 5 UV Throughput Monitoring)

The Faint Object Camera (F/96) was used to make ultraviolet
observations of dwarf standard star BPM16254 and also with the internal
calibration lamp in order monitor the ultraviolet throughput of the
FOC/COSTAR/HST combination. The acquisition at 279/043438Z initially failed
due to the scan step limit being exceeded. The second attempt resulted in
the acquisition failing to fine lock back-up on FGS-1 only. HSTAR 5323 was
written. No other anomalies were noted.

1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth
Flats)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images.
These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA
illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new
superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were
reported.

1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5991 (The Fundamental Plane of Early-Type Galaxies
in X-Ray Clusters at Z=0.0)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of X-Ray galactic cluster
GAL-CLUS-2 in order to measure the scale heights, surface brightness profile,
color distributions and morphology of the cluster. The observations were
completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted.

1.4 Completed FGS and WF/PC-2 6334 (1995 Fall Heptathlon)

The FGSs were used to make observations of standard stars F-SPECT1,
F-SPECT2 and FFGS3 in order to verify the alignments in the focal plane.
Dark calibration images were also taken. At 279/131859Z, SI C&DH status
buffer error 402 occurred, causing the WF/PC Science Data Interface to
disable. HSTAR 5324 was written for this occurrence. The interface was
successfully restored at 279/2026Z, but WF/PC science data was affected. No
other anomalies were reported.

1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5991 (The Fundamental Plane of Early-Type Galaxies
in X-Ray Clusters at Z=0.0)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of X-Ray galactic cluster
GAL-CLUS-0 in order to measure the scale heights, surface brightness profile,
color distributions and morphology of the cluster. The observations were
completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted.

1.6 Completed GHRS/1 6070 (Interstellar Tin: Probing Galactic S-Process
Element Enrichment)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make Echelle A
observations of star HD28771 in order to probe for interstellar tin and to
study the galactic S-process neutron capture of element enrichment. The take
data flag remained down when the FGS acquisition at 279/205600Z failed to
achieve either fine lock or coarse track. HSTAR 5325 was written to document
this event.

1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5983 (Circumstellar Disks in Young Nebulous
Clusters)
=
The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the young nearby nebulous
cluster NGC-2264-3 looking for possible curcumstellar disks (solar nebula
analogs), like the type seen in the Orion Nebula. The observations were
completed as planned, and no problems were reported.

Carina Nebula)

The FGSs were used in the TRANS Mode to make ultra-high resolution
astrometric observations of the O3 class star HD93250 which is located in the
Carina Nebula. This is to determine if this object is a single star or a
multiple star system. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no
anomalies were reported.

1.10 Completed Two Sets of WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle
5)

Companions to nearby M Dwarf)

The FGSs were used in both the POS and TRANS Modes to make astrometric
observations of low mass companions to M class dwarf star GL791 and four

surface. The observations were taken near Saturn's opposition. During the
first iteration, at 280/095357Z, the FGS acquisition failed to fine lock on
FGS-1 only. HSTAR 5326 covered this event. Otherwise, the observations were
executed as scheduled, and no other anomalies were noted.

1.14 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies)

study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.15 Completed WF/PC-2 5900 (Spectroscopy and Imaging of Starburst Knots
in Wolf-Rayet Galaxies)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the starbursting regions

the Globular Cluster 47 Tuc)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of white dwarf star
WD1917-077 which is located in the globular cluster 47 Tuc in order to study
the clusters age and distance. This set of observations will be used to
determine the distance to 47 Tuc, hopefully to an accuracy of better than
10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were
