1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed FGS 6054 (FGS Observations of Halo Population Binaries)

The FGSs were used in the TRANS mode to make astrometric =
observations of the spectroscopic binary star HD20039. From the FGS =
scans, the separation, position angles, and magnitude difference of the =
two stars will be obtained. The observations were completed as scheduled, =
and no problems were noted.

1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program)

The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking =
ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science =
observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with =
flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. =
The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5914 (The Formation History of Globular Clusters =
in M-33)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make V and I observations of globular =
cluster NGC-598-U77 which is located in the M-33 galaxy in order to study =
its formation history. Color-magnitude diagrams made from these images =
will be examined for evidence of a parameter other than metallicity that =
influences the evolutionary development of stars. The observations were =
executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.4 Completed Two Sets of FOS/RD 6236 (FOS Cycle 5: Location of Spectra =
and Wavelength Calibration: Red Side Detector)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make =
calibration observations in order to determine the location of the spectra =
and to perform a wavelength calibration. All observations were internal. =
A Taled calibration was also completed. The observations were completed =
as planned, and no anomalies were reported.

1.5 Completed GHRS/2 6289 (High Resolution Spectroscopy with HST-Final =
GTO Observations)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make high =
resolution spectrographic observations of the star Epsilon Aurigae (aka, =
HD31964). The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies =
were reported.

1.6 Completed GHRS/1 5871 (Rapid UV Variability: The Contribution of =
Flare Heating)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used in the rapid =
mode to make ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the late type star =
HD129333 which has an active chromosphere to study the rapid variability =
of its emission lines. The observations were completed as scheduled, and =
no problems were reported.

1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5972 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance =
Scale)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy NGC-2090 =
looking for standard candle Cepheid variable stars. The purpose of these =
observations is to help estimate the Hubble constant with an accuracy of =
10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were =
noted.

1.8 Completed GHRS/1 5896 (Detailed Studies of High Velocity Ionized =
Gas in Galactic Disks)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make =
observations of star HD57061 in order to study high velocity ionized gas =
in its line of sight to help study the gas in our galactic disk. The =
observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported.

1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal =
Monitor)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series on internal calibration =
observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were =
taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the =
cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies =
were noted.

1.10 Completed FOS/RD 6034 (Physical Conditions in Ionized-Neutral =
Interfaces)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make offset =
observations from the nucleus of Nebula M-42 (aka Orion Nebula) to study =
the physical conditions in ionized-neutral interface zones. Spectra was =
obtained at several different positions across the interface zones. The =
observations were executed as scheduled and no anomalies were noted.

1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flat)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. =
These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA =
illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new =
superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems =
were reported.

1.12 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6365 (A Snapshot survey For =
Companions and Clusters around Wolf-Rayet Stars)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of Wolf-Rayet =
stars WR146 and WR142 in order to look for companion stars and clusters. =
Photometry was performed on the Wolf-Rayet stars and associated stars. =
The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were =
reported.

1.13 Completed GHRS/2 5889 (Probing the Outer Galaxy Halo)

The High Resolution Spectrograph ( Side Two) was used to make =
absorption light spectrographic observations of active galactic nuclei =
NGC-5548 in order to probe the outer galactic halo looking for highly =
ionized gas (N V, and C IV). A wavelength calibration image was also =
taken. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were =
noted.

1.14 Completed WF/PC-2 5978 (Host Galaxy of Distant Radio Quasars)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the host galaxy of =
distant radio-loud quasar 3C263.0. The observations were executed as =
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.15 Completed WF/PC-2 5913 (Low-Mass Binaries and Luminosity Fuction)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low-mass binary =
system NGP019 (Late Type Class M dwarf stars). The intent is to determine =
why the local stellar luminosity function is flat below Mv=3D12, while =
that found from more distant stars falls by an order of magnitude by =
Mv=3D14. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies =
were noted.

1.16 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for radio galaxy 3C196.1 =
to study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were =
executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.17 Completed Two Sets of FGS 6158 (Parallaxes of Hyades Cluster =
Members, Cycle 5 - Part 2)

The FGSs were used to make astrometric POS Mode observations (Part =
Two) of members (set PCEN472, VA472, AST87-REF, et al.) of the Hyades =
Cluster in order to measure their parallaxes. This is part two of =
proposal #6157. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no =
anomalies were noted.

1.18 Completed Two Sets of WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - =
Cycle 5)

The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic =
fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a =
random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, =
and no anomalies were noted.

1.19 Completed FOC/96 5835 (The Structure of the Inner Coma of the =
Comet Chiron)

The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of the =
object/comet 2060 Charon in order to study its inner coma. The goals are =
to map the structure and color of the inner coma. The observations were =
executed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.20 Completed WF/PC-2 6189 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal =
Monitor - Vis Flats)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal visual flat calibration images. =
Both photometric and narrow-band filters were used. The observations were =
executed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.21 Completed WF/PC-2 5841 (Unidentified Extreme UV sources and =
Isolated Neutron Stars)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations the unidentified extreme =
ultraviolet source EUVE1636-2. This object was detected by the ROSAT and =
EUVE satellites. No optical counterparts to this sources have yet been =
identified, and its position is only known to about one arcminute. The =
observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported.

1.22 Completed GHRS/2 6249 (Observations of Interstellar Oxygen)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make =
spectrographic observations of star HD157246 in order to study =
interstellar oxygen in the line of sight to that star. It was found =
previously that the oxygen abundance in the direction of Orion is only =
half of the solar abundance. During this proposal, while the GHRS onboard =
target acquisition was being performed, the FGS#3 acquisition failed to =
fine lock backup on FGS#1. Five of these observations may have been =
affected. HSTAR 5508 was written. Otherwise, the observations were =
completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.23 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6359 (Core Properties of the Bulges =
of Spiral Galaxies)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of spiral galaxies =
NGC-3259 and NGC-6000 in order to study their central bulges. The =
observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomlaies were noted.

1.24 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: =
Dark)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The =
observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported.

1.25 Completed FOC/96 6246 (Image and Polarization Studies of Radio =
Galaxies and Jets)

The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make polarization images =
of galaxy NGC-6251 in order to study its physical structure and optical =
jets. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were =
reported.

1.26 Completed GHRS/1 6083 (The Expanding Chromosphere of a Star)

The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make =
Lyman-Alpha emission spectrographic observations of the A class star =
HD76644 in order to study its expanding chromosphere. The observations =
were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported.

1.27 Completed S/C/FGS/FOS/RDBL/GHRS/2/FOC/96/WF/PC-2 6848 (1996 Spring =
Hetatholon)

The relative positions of the science instruments were measured =
(i.e., S-Spectr1, S-Spect2, S-FOC96, SFGS-Ref, WFC-Center) to determine =
the focal plate scale, and to assess the stability of the focal plane and =
the FGSs. Stars in astrometric cluster M-35 were used for these =
observations. The observations were executed as scheduled and no =
anomalies were noted.

1.28 Completed WF/PC-2 5939 (Evolution in the Isotropic Properties of =
BL Lac Objects)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the BL Lac object =
QSO0828+49 in order to study its evolution and isotropic properties. The =
observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported.

1.29 Completed FOS/BL 6022 (The ZZ Ceti Instability Strip and Stellar =
Convection)

The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make =
observations of ZZ Ceti class star WD1422+095 (aka, GD165) which is a =
pulsating white dwarf which is known to vary a few tenths of a magnitude =
in short times scales of about 10 minutes. The observations were executed =
as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.30 Completed WF/PC-2 5923 (The Structure of the Emission Line Regions =
of Compact Steep Spectrum)

The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the compact radio =
galaxy 3C303.1 in order to study the structure of the emission line =
regions of its compact steep spectrum. The goal is to map the emission =
line structure and establish its relationship to the radio structure. The =
observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported.
