HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE

DAILY REPORT #2585

PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/21/00 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/22/00

Daily Status Report as of 082/0000Z

1.0 OBSERVATIONS SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed STIS/CCD/MA1 7513 (The Stellar Content of Giant HII Regions)

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD/MA1) was used to
obtain spectroscopy of two giant HII regions over the wavelength range 1200
Angstrom -- 10000 Angstrom. The proposal completed with no reported problems.

1.2 Completed Six Sets of WF/PC-2 8090 (POMS Test Proposal: WF-II
Parallel Archive Proposal Continuation)

The WF/PC-2 was used in the parallel mode to make some low galactic
latitude archive observations. The program will be used to take parallel
images of random areas of the sky. The observations were executed as
scheduled, and no anomalies were noted.

1.3 Completed Five Sets of WF/PC-2 8457 (UV Earth Flats)

The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain a series of Ultraviolet Earth
flats. The observations were completed with no reported problems.

1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 8460 (Cycle 8 Supplemental Darks pt2/3)

The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain three dark frames every day to
provide data for monitoring and characterizing the evolution of hot
pixels. The observations completed with no reported problems.

1.5 Completed STIS/CCD 8439 (Bias Monitor-Part 2 C8)

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to monitor
the bias in the 1x1, 1x2, 2x1, and 2x2 bin settings at gain=1, and 1x1 at
gain = 4, to build up high-S/N superbiases and track the evolution of hot
columns. The proposal completed with no reported problems.

1.6 Completed STIS/CCD 8483 (Eta Carinae, the Integral Nebula and the
Homunculus Observations)

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to make
observations of Eta Carina which recently has revealed much new and very
exciting information. The observations were completed with no reported
problems.

1.7 Completed STIS/CCD 8155 (Highly Collimated Strings in the Nebula
Around Eta Carinae - A New Phenomenon)

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to observe
a set of highly collimated strings in the nebula around Eta Car in order to
determine their physical nature and their relation to phenomenologically
similar structures in nebulae around evolved low mass stars. Yhe
observations completed with no reported anomalies.

1.8 Completed STIS/CCD 8474 (Coronographic Imaging of Protoplanetary Disks)

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to obtain
broad-band optical coronographic imaging that will be used to search for
circumstellar disks and indirect signatures of the presence of massive
planets toward the nearby Herbig Ae/Be and T Tauri stars. The observations
completed with no reported problems.

1.9 Completed STIS/CCD/MA1 8431 (Doppler Test of Far UV MAMA with
Jenkins Slit)

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD and MA1) was used to
execute a Doppler test to measure the limiting resolving power of the
far-ultraviolet MAMA using the Jenkins 0.100x0.030 slit. The observations
were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted.

2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY:

2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions:
Scheduled Acquisitions: 8
Successful: 8

The acquisition at 082/094851Z defaulted to fine lock backup on
FGS-3 only when the scan step limit was exceeded on FGS-1. HSTAR 7547 was
written. Two proposals, WF/PC-2 8214 and STIS 8437, both occurring during
the period of the next report, may have been affected.
Scheduled Re-acquisitions: 8
Successful: 8

2.2 FHST Updates:
Scheduled: 16
Successful: 16

2.3 Operations Notes:

The SSR EDAC error counter was reset four times per ROP SR-1A.

As directed by an operations request, the CC!, CC2 and CC# K2s were
set to level 2 at 081/1800Z.

CCS string "A" was re-cycled at 081/1957Z when the system ceased
allowing logins.

3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS:

Continuation of normal science observations and calibrations.
