Operations The
F/96
relay
has
been
operating
nominally.
The
F/48
relay
was
again
successfully
used
for
external
observations.
Proposals
Executed
There
were
5
GTO/GO
proposals
and
3
CAL
proposal
executed
using
the
FOC:
Upcoming
DOB
move
The
COSTAR
DOB
will
be
moved
from
its
current
position
of
0.75mm
to
0.2mm.
This
will
be
accompanied
by
a

secondary
mirror
move
to
correct
for
desorption.
Both
moves
will
take
place
on
day
96.304
(Wednesday
October
30).

F/48
Calibrations
F/48
calibrations
have
proven
very
successful.
The
new
method
for
acquiring
targets
onto
the
F/48
spectrograph
slit,
described
in
the
August
TIPS
meeting,
was
used
for
the
first
time
on
Sunday
20th
October,
and
worked
perfectly.
A
longslit
spectrum
of
an
absorptionline
template
standard
was
taken.
Since
the
FOC
is
countrate
limited,
obtaining
a
spectrum
of
a
star
with
good
signaltonoise
is
prohibitive,
even
after
the
23
orbits
required
to
center
the
target
on
the
slit.
A
better
method
is
to
use
an
extended
absorptionline
source,
so
that
the
template
spectrum
can
be
summed
along
the
slit
to
increase
the
signaltonoise
r
atio.
