Title: STIS/MAMA Dark Measurements C17

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Orbit estimates are TOTAL for all of cycle-17; assume 68 weeks
# (7 December 2008 to 31 March 2010)
Total Prime Orbits: 0
External Parallel Orbits: 0
Internals or no-impact orbits: 284
Comments on orbit estimate: 1 orbit per MAMA, 2 executions per week
for 68 weeks (2 x 68 x 2 detectors)
plus extra 2 x 6 orbit blocks for FUV MAMA
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# This section should be written with a GO audience in mind -- use
# Calibration plans in WFPC-2 handbook as a guide.
Purpose: This test performs the routine monitoring of the MAMA
detector dark noise. This proposal will provide the primary
means of checking on health of the MAMA detectors systems
through frequent monitoring of the background count rate.
The purpose is to look for evidence of change in the dark
rate, indicative of detector problems developing.
Description: Two times a week 1 23min exposure is taken with the FUV and
NUV MAMAs with the shutter closed. For each detector, the
second exposure in the weekly pair should be taken 4.5 to
7.5 orbits after the first exposure of the pair. This
ensures they are taken in different parts of the same SAA
free interval. The exposures are taken in ACCUM mode. The
length of the exposures is chosen to make them parallels.
Two times a year a 6 exposure sequence of 21.8 m FUV-MAMA
TIME-TAG darks are taken over the course of a single SAA
free period.
Accuracy: 1%
Comments on Accuracy: Each measurement will give a statistical
uncertainty of 1% for the global dark rate.
Products: CDBS DRK files; ISR

# Analysis Plan
Expected FTE weeks for analysis: 4
Required turnaround on analysis (weeks): 4 weeks
Data volume (Mb needed for analysis): 50 Mb
Special software needed for analysis? (Describe): None
Description of analysis Plans:
Measure dark current and look for evidence of change in dark indicative of
detector problem developing. Data will be co-added each month and compared to
previous months (same for periods of 6 months). Develop temperature dependant
NUV darks as well as FUV darks for various glow levels. Create DRK images for
pipeline.
