STIS Cycle-20 Calibration Phase-1 Template

Last Revised: Sept. 27, 2012
Proposal ID: 13143
Title: MAMA Spectroscopic Dispersion Solution
PI: P. Sonnentrucker
Co-I(s): C. Proffitt

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Orbit estimates are TOTAL for all of cycle-20; assume 52 weeks)

Total Prime Orbits: 0
External Parallel Orbits: 0
Internals or no-impact orbits: 7
Comments on orbit estimate: Annual monitoring program

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# This section should be written with a GO audience in mind -- use
# Calibration plans in WFPC-2 handbook as a guide.

Purpose: To constrain the wavelength dispersion solutions

Description: Internal wavecals will be obtained at primary and secondary central
wavelengths chosen to cover Cycle 20 use. There is also overlap with choices
of configurations used with previous calibration programs which will enable
long-term monitoring. This program uses the LINE lamp for a total of approximately
1.5 hours, typically at a lamp current of 10 mA.

Accuracy: 0.1 pixel

Comments on Accuracy: Internal wavelength precision that should be achieved in
calibration exposures.

Products: Accuracy of the existing MAMA dispersion (_dsp) reference file
will assessed and described in the Cycle 20 calibration close-out report.
If necessary, a new reference file will be created and delivered along with a
supporting Instrument Science Report.

Observation summary: Wavecals will be obtained for a selected number of
central wavelengths of the 8 gratings (E140H, E140M, G140M, G140L, E230H, E230M, G230M, G230L)
used with the MAMA detectors (FUV-MAMA,NUV-MAMA). For all exposures, TARGET=NONE and LAMP=LINE is used.
Different apertures are used with each grating.

Below is a summary table with information about each grating (column 1), central wavelength
(column 2), aperture (column 3), and time (column 4).

Grat Wave Aperture Time
E140M 1425 0.2x0.06 620.

E230M 2707 0.2x0.06 87.2

E230H 1763 0.1x0.09 800.
E230H 2713 0.1x0.09 500.

G140M 1218 52x0.1 450.
G140M 1640 52x0.1 100.

G230M 1687 52x0.1 310.
G230M 3055 52x0.1 22.

G230L 2376 52x0.049 47.6

E230H 1963 0.1x0.09 800.

# Exposure list plan at the Phase I level. Be as complete as reasonable.
# If possible information should be complete enough to allow easy
# submission of a Phase 2 from this form. However, if you have to leave
# some of the fields blank below, or want to provide the information
# in another format, that is acceptable. (Make sure you do the BOP checking
# though, as this is a phase-1 issue.)
