Kennedy Krieger Institute

The Kennedy Krieger Institute's Department of Special Education includes a number of programs that offer services to children with disabilities in a variety of school-based and recreational settings. Kennedy Krieger teachers offer special education and related services to students with a wide range of learning, emotional, physical, neurological and developmental disabilities. Special education services focus on the development of academic, social, emotional and behavioral skills through trans-disciplinary comprehensive instruction in an environment that recognizes and capitalizes on the individual strengths of each child.

The Kennedy Krieger Institute School programs, including its Career and Technology High School, have been nationally recognized by the US Department of Education for their excellence in providing special education services to students with disabilities ranging in severity from mild/moderate to severe/profound. In addition, Kennedy Krieger Institute has initiated a number of projects to provide access to science and technology to typically under-represented populations (such as women and youngsters with disabilities), two of which initiated through the Career and Technology Center, received Earmark Grants from the US Department of Education.

KKI teachers will participate in the hands-on workshops and assist the PI with the work of selecting or adapting activities to meet the needs of students who may have special learning or physical requirements and will assist the PI in the training and professional development activities for teachers that may be identified in this project.
