GO FUNDING PROCESS FOR INCOMPLETE ACS PROGRAMS Process similar to the one used after the STIS failure. · Programs that can be completed using another instrument: ­ No change in funding; ­ PIs may submit a request for supplemental funding if additional orbits were approved. · Programs that cannot be completed with another instrument were terminated. · Returned funds will be made available for the substitute WFPC2 Programs.

Process for Terminated Programs
· E-mails were sent to PIs by the ST ScI Grants Administration Office:
­ Programs with no data and no funding
· E-mail stated that no funding would be awarded;

­ Programs with no data and preparatory funds awarded
· E-mail requested the return of the unexpended funds;

­ Programs receiving < 75% data
· E-mail requested a revised budget with a justification of the funding needed to analyze the reduced amount of data;

­ Programs receiving > 75% and < 85% of data, PIs asked:
· Will all science goals be accomplished? · Will all of the approved funding be required?

­ Programs > 85% considered completed

Cost of ACS Failure:

Total Cost = Funding for substitute Programs minus reduced cost of the incomplete ACS Programs 4 - 6 weeks before ST ScI will know the total cost
­ Requested funding for the 5 substitute WFPC2 Programs = $2,073,407 ­ FRC meeting to review WFPC2 budgets scheduled for April 16 ­ Estimate of funds to be returned by terminated Programs is TBD

DEADLINES and FRC Meetings
4/16/07: Interim FRC Meeting to review ACS Replacement Programs. 4/27/07: Deadline for the submission of revised budgets and narratives for terminated Programs (if necessary):
1. GRA review of material; 2. Additional information requested if necessary; 3. Material reviewed by the FRC.

5/18/07: Deadline for the receipt of Cycle 16 budgets and narratives submitted electronically through the STGMS. 6/20/07 ­ 6/22/07: Cycle 16 FRC Meeting.
