HST Flash Report Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1995

HST Flight Operations was moved to the SAMS facility earlier today at
approximately 228/0950Z (4:50 a.m. local time) due to failures of both the
prime and backup strings supporting the MOR. One full STR dump was lost due
to the inability to command the required playback before the data was
overwritten by the on-board load executing at the time. Attempts to diagnose
and recover the strings supporting the MOR are underway, and operations
activities are expected to resume from the MOR later this morning.

Subject: FYI, re near-safing

I just got a call from Manfred, who is at GSFC. They
managed to get the SAMS system up and running, and have send
the next command load up, so there is no danger of safing. SAMS
is the backup system in Building 1, used last (I believe) as
an overflow site during the Servicing Mission. They plan to
operate there for several days, until the computer situation in
the STOCC is straightened out.

The planned tape dump at 11:04 UT was missed. Manfred
is checking to see if they can get it dumped before it is next
needed.
