Here is the schedule so far for the STIS recovery on side 2. The work so
far looks like it will support a R/T activation and FSW load ~ July 5 and
first STIS visits in the SMS that starts July 8. A major activity for next
week is to develop and start the review process for the "SMOV" programs.

Subject: Status of STScI preparations for STIS side 2 operations

Attached is the updated schedule. Note that dark
boxes indicate completed work and crosshatched boxes
indicate planned work. Much progress has been made this
week.
1) We have completed the audit of the STIS instructions
and PDB elements. We have identified the handful
of items that need to be changed.

2) We have analyzed the slit wheel and MSM side 2
parameter values and have communicated the
necessary modifications to the fsw group.

3) We have completed the audit of the STIS limit check
values for side 2 and have found that no modifications
are needed at this time.

4) We had a discussion with Phil Christon and Randy Kimble
about our safing recovery and CCD anneal procedures.
They agreed that thermal runaway is not possible with
the side 2 hardware and that there will be no current
spiking during CCD thermal transitions. So... our present
procedures will work fine on side 2. The order and timing
of the steps are adequate; therefore, no modifications
to the STIS reconfigurations rules or safing recovery
procedure are necessary. However... there will be need
to modify the commanding of the TEC setpoint value. We
must always use the maximum setpoint of -83deg C
(=40counts). Corresponding changes will be necessary
in the realtime world.

5) We have begun discussion on the initial side 2 reactivity
procedure. Our next meeting on this subject with be
10am east coast time on Wednesday, May 30th.

6) We completed the bit busting of the new side 2 safing
sequence and have delivered to the SISEs for ground
testing. We plan to uplink this sequence to the
vehicle as soon as testing completed so that we can
allocate an RTS index number.

7) We have begun the re-validation (aka bitbusting) of
all the STIS PDB elements (using RIU B).

8) We recreated the SM3b initial rts load SMSs using the
new side 2 safing sequence. The PASS products were
delivered to the SISEs for ground testing.

I will be away from the office for the next two weeks.
Art, Michelle, and Colleen know how to contact me. I
can be paged and will read e-mail. I will participate
in the Wednesday meeting. Ron Pitts will be continuing
the re-validation and will start creating a ground
test SMS. He will be attending any side 2 related
telecons. Please keep him advised. He will also be
out of the office on June 6 thru June 8. Dean Zak
will begin modifying our internal software tools to
handle STIS side 2.

Ciao. V.
