SMOV Status & Planning Meeting Minutes

STATUS REPORTS

1.  Observatory Status - All systems nominal.

	PCS - An HSTAR was written for a momentary out-of-limits condition
	      for the 3-axis rate path during a type 2 slew.  The event 			      occurred during an SAA passage.  It is being studied further
	      but is not considered serious.

	    - The FSW upling for the 4-gyro configuration will be activated
	      today.  (The FRR occurred yesterday.)  This will introduce 
	      Gyro 1 into the control loop.


2.  WFPC2 Status - Proceeding nominally with Cycle 6 science and
	remaining SMOV monitors.  
  

3.  NICMOS Status

	- Engineering Status - Nominal

	  Detector 1 Mounting Cup temperature is stable at 61.09 degK.
	  VCS temperature is stable at 97.8 degK.
 
  	- Science Status - Nominal

	Analyses of the latest Camera 3 focus monitor data (22 April) showed
	more small movement (~ 0.3mm) of the camera focus back toward
	nominal.

	Last week's 7053 Limb Avoidance observations have been analyzed and
	show very good tolerance of both bright and dark earth limbs (within
	13 deg. of bright Earth limb).  This result may allow for a
	relaxation of the FGS 20-deg. avoidance angle for NICMOS.  The Team
	will make a formal request if the change is warranted by the final
	analysis.

	The 7055 Grism Test has been performed but the data are not yet
	available.

	ERO data continue to be analyzed.

	The previously reported problem (April 21 notes) involving more
	than 100 images in the NICMOS image queue has been traced the
	TRANS ground software.  An HSTAR has been written.


4.  STIS Status

	- Engineering Status

	The STIS CCD experienced many spurious voltage settings on
	18 April (day 108).   The problem was detected only when an
	STScI scientist (Hartig) saw some funny-looking image data
	on Monday and reported some of the anomalous voltages.

	Engineering investigations have been continuing since then,
	but as of yet there is no strong hypothesis for explaining
	the event.  

	Last night the CCD was turned off, since it was going to be turned
	off anyway for installation of the MAMA SAA Operate FSW.  The
	question now is whether we will understand enough to safely turn 
	it back on at the planned point following the FSW installation.  
	Worst case scenario is that the CCD remains off for rest of this SMS
 	(SPC cmds blocked) and that CCD activities on next week's SMS118 get
	pulled off.  

	That would mean, in terms of external observations, the loss
	of a UV Monitor tomorrow morning and loss an ERO (87A spectrum)
	Friday night, and, if next week is in fact impacted, the loss
	of a CCD peak-up test (7071) which is on the critical path to fine
	alignment, a new aperture location test (7151), and another UV
 	monitor.
	
	This again is worst case.  MAMA HV on activities can apparently
	proceed as planned.

	A engineering meeting is scheduled at 1pm today to discuss. 

	- Science Status

	Some image shift in the science data has been observed and is not
	yet understood.  Under investigation.
	
5.  FGS status

	    - The scheduled SMOV mini-OFADs for each FGS have completed and
		analysis so far looks good.  The new FGS, in particular,
		is displaying errors of only a few milliarcseconds, except
		for a couple areas in the pickle, where the errors are 
		slightly larger.  These continue to be studied.  Also, the
		FGS-to-FGS alignment has completed, and eventhough 3 of the
		seven stars presented problems, the data seem sufficient 
		to derive an alignment.  Thus, we remain on schedule for
		intitating FGS-1R as a guider, pending remaining analyses and
		updates, in SMS139.

	

6.  FOC/COSTAR status- The FOC SMOV program is complete.  The SMOV TTRB has
	enabled the resumption of FOC science. 


PLANNING REPORTS

1.  Status of Upcoming SMSs

	- SMS111 - Currently executing.

	- SMS118 - Awaiting results of CCD anomaly analysis and any replan
		   before running Final Mode products.

	- SMS125 - The calendar is complete.   This SMS will contain the last
 		   piece of MAMA HV Turn-On (7105) on day 127 (May 7).
		 - Initial Mode products are out for review.
		 - May not need instruction update for "big" bad-pixel table.
		   (Will be worked off-line.)

	- SMS132 - Calendar building has started.  initial calendar looks
		   OK.

		   
2.  Replans

	STIS

	- MAMA HV Turn-on (7105) is currently planned for SMS118.
	  Downstream MAMA scheduling has been assessed.  According to
	  the latest plan, regular MAMA SMOV operations are to start
	  in the SMS 139.

	NICMOS

	- No significant replans have yet been identified.


OPERATIONS STATUS

1.  OPUS - Tracking down a problem in retrieving two members of a NICMOS  	   	 association from the archive.

2.  Archive - Nominal except for problem stated above.
