Commanding Notes for Flight SMS 051437B1
****************************************

The start of the SMS includes an update for the NCS PID
setpoint for the NICMOS detector temperature. With the approach
of the cool season, the update will increase the NICMOS detector
temperature by 0.05K to compensate for the colder aft shroud environment.

This SMS contains commanding for ACS SBC observations of
a target that could undergo an outburst to a brightness
level that would exceed limits set for the SBC MAMA.The
Instrument Scientist has determined that such an outburst
would be gradual enough such that it could be detected
prior to the observation and has approved the observation.
First, the visit starts by setting the ACS Event Flag 2 on
day 143 at 07:15 UT. This prevents SBC turn-on.
Ground-based observations prior to the HST observations will be
used to assess the brightness level of the target. If OK, Event Flag 2
will be cleared via an OPS request and the SBC turn-on and
observation will proceed. Whether or not the observation occurs,
Event Flag 2 will be cleared via stored commanding on day 144
at 00:30 UT. If Event Flag 2 is not cleared via the Ops
Request prior to the scheduled time of SBC turn-on which is
on day 143 at 15:50 UT, certain SBC commanding will be
bypassed and there will be three instances of ACS ESB
message 290, with parameters 3, 4, and 5 (in that order).
In this event, these messages may be ignored for this
particular occasion.
