Commanding Notes for Flight SMS 100327A5 Delivery Letter
********************************************************

The Commanding Team has completed its review
of flight SMS 100397A8 and has found no problems.

This SMS contains a test of the procedure developed
for protection of COS & STIS HV detectors from targets
that could flare to damaging levels. (This procedure is
different than what has been done for similar targets
observed with ACS/SBC.) The test will be done on a known,
safe field. A NSSC-1 vector table slot will be loaded with
a V2,V3 offset prior to the observation, at 042/22:23 UT.
After a normal slew to the target, a genslew will slew to
the offset pointing at 042/22:32 and an observation
(COS FUV) will be done. In this case, we do not expect
an Ops Request to load the slot as stated in the text block
that accompanies the genslew request in the SMS.

In a non-test situation, the loading of the slot will take
place ~3 days before the observation. If the target can be
shown, based on ground observations, to be safe within 24
hours of the observation, realtime commanding will be used
to clear the slot. Thus, the genslew will be a null slew,
and the target will be observed as intended. If ground
observations show the target to be in outburst, no realtime
commanding will be done, and the genslew will cause the
observation to be done at the safe offset pointing.
