GOODS/HDF-N KPNO 4m FLAMINGOS Imaging

GOODS HDF-N FLAMINGOS data

Status

The HDF-N was observed with FLAMINGOS on the KPNO Mayall 4-m telescope 2001 February 7-11. A description of the observing conditions can be found here.

Data Release

  • Raw data: The raw FLAMINGOS data from semester 2001A, which were previously available at this location, have been temporarily moved and reorganized into a form that does not make them easy to retrieve. They were difficult to work with anyway due to the near total absence of header information in early FLAMINGOS data. If you really want the raw data, please contact Mark Dickinson directly.

  • Version 0.5: Our version 0.5 reductions have been delayed due to difficulties calibrating the array nonlinearity and geometric distortion, as well as reduction challenges associated with the significant PSF distortion that was present in early FLAMINGOS data. We have recently solved the geometric distortion problem, implemented handling for geometric distortion and field rotation into the DIMSUM data reduction software, and have given up on the nonlinearity as uncalibratable for the 2001A data.

Since the 2001A FLAMINGOS data were taken in relatively poor conditions, with only a few hours of total observing time, and because they have various calibration difficulties, our hope all along has been for much better observations during the 2002A semester, when 10 nights with FLAMINGOS were allocated to the GOODS project. However, the first run (in March) was lost entirely when a lens was broken in FLAMINGOS. We hope to recover some of those lost nights in April. Nevertheless, as a result of this loss, the older, 2001A FLAMINGOS data has become a higher priority once again, and we are renewing our efforts on the data reduction. Stay tuned for developments.
