I have worked on and with a number of instrumentation projects, including interferometric beam combination, NIR spectrometers, and - most intensive - a cryogenic MIR camera. Most recently, I have spent most of my time performing simulations of the aperture synthesis mode of the Space Interferometer Mission (SIM). When I find the time to do some astronomy, my interests lie mainly in the field of galaxy dynamics, especially the response of the gaseous material to a bar-like potential. This might cause dynamical resonances that trigger intense star formation in ring-like structures around the centers of galaxies. I am trying to find these so-called Lindblad resonances in NIR and MIR tracers of star formation.
