I am working on the second Guide Star Catalog, which when completed in two years will be an all-sky optical survey from Schmidt plates complete to mag 18.5 with colors and proper motions. My GSC II work includes image processing and classification of stars, galaxies and plate defects using decision trees. I am studying open star clusters by deriving memberships from proper motions using the GSC II plates. I am interested in statistical analysis of large astronomical catalogs and databases using methods such as principle component analysis, clustering algorithms, and wavelets. I have also worked with infrared observations of mass loss from AGB stars.
