The coordinate of regions I import in xmmselect from ds9 are fully out-of-bounds. Am I doing something wrong?

No, but maybe you have the wrong version of ds9 installed. A bug was in fact recently discovered in version 2.2.1 of ds9, when used in conjunction with SAS v5.4. When importing a spatial region (either in sky - X/Y - or detector - DET[XY] - coordinates) into xmmselect, the coordinates in the corresponding selection expression are totally out of bounds (i.e. larger than, say, 1E+05). Filtering with this expression will remove all events.

In order to overcome this problem, please, upgrade your ds9 installation to the latest available version (3.0b6 at the time of writing).

The version number of ds9 is given in the dialog that comes up when the menu entries File/About ds9 are selected.
