Omdetect has a simple extended-source validation function to recognise
scattered-light features and ignore them. The algorithm works
by assuming a scattered-light feature consists of a number of connected pixels with
values significantly above the background interspersed with pixels not significantly
above the background and arranged in a random fashion throughout the source region.
