We present submillimeter statistical detections of galaxies discovered in the 5'У?5' Spitzer Early Release Observations (to ~4-15 ЮМJy 5 Я? at 3.6-8 ЮМm, 170 ЮМJy at 24 ЮМm) through a stacking analysis of our reanalyzed SCUBA 8 mJy survey maps and a Spitzer identification of a new submillimeter point source in the 8 mJy survey region. ... Galaxies are diffuse images which must be detected against a background of finite brightness with noise. Those galaxies which have the highest contrast with respect to this background are the most easily dectect. Low surface brightness galaxies are ones in which the contrast with respect to the background sky brightness is low, as such they are difficult to discover and therefore are easily missed.
