The effect of an equilibrium flow on resonant absorption of linear MHD waves in cylindrical magnetic flux tubes is studied in compressible viscous MHD. ... A parametric analysis shows that there are values of the equilibrium velocity field for which the absorption rate becomes zero, even for rather small velocity shears. ... For other values of the equilibrium flow we find that the resonant absorption can be strongly enhanced, even up to total absorption of the incoming wave. ...

In this Subthesis we study the solar activity of the Miocence (or Triassic) period. Measurements of the thickness of the annual tree-rings of petrified trees provide a unique method to determine the cylce of the solar activity during the life-time of the tree in pre-historic times. Study of annual tree-rings of 12 different petrified trees from the Miocene (or Triassic) period show solar cycles with a period of 6.8 - 8.4 years in contradiction to the recent 22-year-period.

The NaI D lines at 5890/5896A are very prominent features in the spectrum of late-type stars. Nevertheless, little attention has been devoted to the potential use of those lines as chromospheric diagnostics.
