. A sky full of Geminids . For days before the 2009 Geminids, Turkish astrophotographer Tun Tezel watched clouds swamp the skies. They cleared just in time for the shower's peak, and he headed to the high elevation Kirazliyayla meadow in Uludag National Park near Bursa, Turkey. Despite more than a foot of fresh snow, he was able to make this composite of 26 Geminids radiating from Castor and scattering everywhere. Tunцї Tezel

. A colorful gem . John Chumack caught this fireball over a friend's home in Warrenton, Virginia, during the 2014 Geminid meteor shower. "The Geminid meteors often show the Color in their trails nicely!" he says. John Chumack

. Geminid fireball streaks over a Christmas tree . During the 2009 Geminid meteor shower, veteran astrophotographer Tony Rowell braved below freezing temperatures at elevations above 9,000 feet in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. To light this snow covered Christmas tree near Rock Creek Lake, he used his Celestron portable power pack with a 110 converter. His efforts were rewarded by this extremely bright fireball during a 20 second exposure. Tony Rowell

. Flowing glaciers . This scene looks more like the glaciers of Antarctica or Greenland than it does Pluto. New Horizons scientists believe the ice flows onto the uplands of Sputnik Planum on the right side of the image, from the nearby mountains. The flows fronts in blue appear to pass through the several-mile-wide valleys shown by the red arrows. However, scientists still don't understand the pits. NASA/JHUAPL/SwRI

. Majestic mountains . Fifteen minutes after New Horizons' closest approach to Pluto, the spacecraft glanced back and caught this near-sunset shot of the dwarf planet's rugged mountains, Norgay Montes, which climb up to 11,000 feet (3,500 meters) and smooth plains of Sputnik Planum. This picture was taken from 11,000 miles (18,000 kilometers) away from Pluto. NASA/JHUAPL/SwRI

World-famous astroimager Adam Block captured Comet PANSTARRS from Tucson, Arizona, on March 10. ... Look for the comet 30 minutes (exactly!) after sunset as it gets a little higher above the horizon each night this week. ... Needless to say, it is a challenge.б?The comet will be shown each night from the Mount Lemmon SkyCenter as part of our public shows. ... To get this shot, Block took a 4-second exposure through a Canon EOS 40D DSLR with a Canon EF300mm f/4L IS USM lens set at f/13. Adam Block ...
