Optoacoustic measurement of laser intensity distribution and optical properties of biological tissues in vitro Optoacoustic (OA) method for measurement of laser intensity spatia l distribution and determination of optical properties of highly scattering media is discussed. The proposed method is based on the OA effect: laser pulse absorptio n in the medium leads to formation of the wideband acoustic signal, its te mpora l profile depending on the optical coefficients of the medium. In present work the following biological media are being investigated: milk, bovine liver, porcine liver, bovine meat. For each of the samples under investigation the absorption coefficient, attenuation coefficient, and reduced scattering coefficient are determined according to the temporal profile of the OA pulse. The measurements were performed for two laser wavelengths: the main harmonic of the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser ( = 1.064 µm), and one of the harmonics of the tunable Ti:Sapphire laser ( = 779 nm). The results of the work have shown the applicability of the OA method to measure ment of the optical properties of biological tissues in vitro.
