Our extensive investigations have shown that there are surprising profound parallels between turbulent processes in jets and noise-induced oscillations of a pendulum with a randomly vibrated suspension axis. Especially this touches on how the jets and such a pendulum respond to a periodic external action. This is our opinion that the reasons of such the parallels lie in the fact that the onset of turbulence is not a result of excitation of self-oscillations but it is associated with a noise-induced transition similar to that occurs in such a pendulum. The dependencies of the pulsation variance on the amplitude and frequency of the periodic action are of the same character for a jet and such a pendulum. Moreover, the response of a jet and such a pendulum to a biharmonic action is similar.
