FIRST CIRCULAR


Scientific Program The Conference will focus on the new projects and new lines of researches in the field of the Nuclear Reactions that will be developed in the main Laboratories and Research Centres during the next 10-15 years. Therefore, the conference is open to contributions on various kinds of nuclear reactions (also of astrophysical interest) between nuclei, and between particles and nucleons. In the Conference, the main emphasis will be on the discussion (from experimental and theoretical points of view) of processes leading to heavy and light reaction products (with or without compound nucleus formation), synthesis of superheavy nuclei, investigations of baryonic resonances by hadronic or electromagnetic interactions and their decay with the production of scalar and vector mesons. General Information The Conference will consist of invited talks, oral and poster presentations of contributed papers. The conference language will be English. The Conference will be held in Messina, at the University Palace. It is possible to lodge in different kind of hotels or residences. Pre-registration and Second Circular Participation is open to all persons interested in Nuclear Physics. If you plan to participate in the Conference or wish to get further information, you are requested to complete the on­line pre-registration form electronically and to send it back until February 28th, 2009. It is possible to find the pre-registration form at the Conference Web-site (http://nucleo.unime.it/conf2009). We will send you the second circular until July 15th, 2009 which provides the preliminary program, the hotel information and hotel accommodation form. Registration Fee The registration fee for a participant at the Conference will be Euro 240 (including welcome reception, coffee breaks, planned bus service for the connection between the Reggio Calabria airport or the Catania airport with Messina, poster-session cocktail, Conference dinner and a copy of the proceedings). The registration fee for an accompanying person will be Euro 130. For payments received after August 25th, 2009, the fees will be Euro 280 and Euro 170, respectively. It is possible to pay the fee by the moneyGram transfer or bank transfer (made out to: G. Giardina - International Conference on Nuclear Physics) posted to G. Giardina, Dipartimento di Fisica, Salita Sperone 31, 98166 Messina (Italy). In this case the above-mentioned fee is at net of the bank commission. Payment also may be carried out directly at the Conference desk by cash, travellers' cheques or credit 2


cards. If you send money by an international transfer or bank, please also send a copy by fax (++39-090-395004). Call for Papers Participants are encouraged to present their recent works to the Conference. For each contribution an abstract of one page (A4 format) has to be submitted before May 31st, 2009. It is necessary to submit the abstracts electronically by e-mail, sending a Postscript file for the text. Additional information will be found at the Conference Web-site (http://nucleo.unime.it/conf2009). Participants will receive information on the acceptance of their contribution for oral or poster presentation before July 10th, 2009. Young researchers (up to about 40 years old) are strongly encouraged to participate with scientific contributions. Invited talks and oral presentation of all participants will be published in the Conference Proceedings. Travel and Accommodation Detailed information will be included in the Second Circular. The Organizers intend to encourage the participation of young researchers like PhD students or Post-doctoral positions or colleagues of countries economically less favoured by a reduction of 50% of the total registration fee. Social Events The Welcome Reception, combined with registration and check-in, will be held on Sunday evening of October 4th. The poster-session Cocktail will be held during Wednesday afternoon of October 7th . The Conference Dinner is planned for Thursday evening of October 8th. Weather Conditions The weather is fine during the first part of October. There are sunny days with temperatures between 20-25°C. Sometimes it is possible to have a transient perturbation, but normally the weather is stable.
