Robot Ball ? 2014

From May 15 to June 15 (2014), the design centre ?Artplay? hosts ?Robot ball? which represents an International Meeting of Modern Robots (official website: balrobotov.ru). This event is held in Moscow under the aegis of the All-Russian Science Festival.

The schedule of the International Meeting of Robots includes several events. An interactive exhibition of modern robots and the latest achievements in robotics have attracted particular attention.

In order to participate in the ?Robot Ball?, more than 40 robots arrived in Moscow from USA, France, Germany, UK, South Korea, Japan, Russia, Canada, etc. Robot types include android robot, robot musician, robot painter and many other varieties.

A famous robot Titan (UK) which is almost 3 meters high and weighs 350 kilograms participates in shows featuring Hollywood stars and attracts thousands of spectators. Titan, who can dance, sing and entertain the audience with his jokes, has learned Russian language specifically for his visit to Russia. This robot participated in the closing ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Researchers from England created one of the most technologically advanced humanoid robots named Thespian. Thespian was designed to perform in theatres and is considered one of the most modern and emotional robots in the world. Thespian can socialize, copy gestures, sing, laugh and cry as well as read Shakespeare.

A French robot Nao is one of the most popular robots used in laboratories and universities across the globe. An intellectual industry robot Baxter (USA) is able to perform multiple operations on goods, namely, loading, offloading, sorting and packing.

The all-Russian robot helper R.Bot-100 allows a person to be present at a distance in any place by letting him see and hear whatever happens around him.

A Zelenograd-based company ?Neurorobotics? produced very interesting anthropomorphic robots, namely, a robot named ?Pushkin? and a female robot ?Alisa? which recognizes human mimicry and can hold a conversation with a human being by expressing a full spectrum of emotions ranging from sadness to anger. In addition to having a physical appearance that is almost identical to that of the Great Russian poet, ?Pushkin? can give school courses in literature by reciting poems.

The Robot Ball will allow each participant to see the future of the humanity in coexistence with robots as well as to perceive himself as an element of the future. Participants are welcome to attend interactive and training events, to try to perform an engineering role as well as to master basic skills in designing, programming and assembling of robots in a real Robot Laboratory that uses 3D printing facilities.

The schedule of the International Meeting of Robots also included an International Robot Forum that took place from May 15 to May 18, 2014.
