First All-China Olympiad on the Russian language

20160202_1January 18, 2016, the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing (China) hosted the final of the All-China Olympiad on the Russian language. The only foreign university – co-organizer of the Olympiad was Lomonosov Moscow State University, reflecting its important role in the promotion of the Russian language in the international educational space.

The Olympiad for schoolchildren sparked a powerful surge in interest in the Russian language throughoutљChina. During the qualifying round several thousands of high school pupils from 57 schools in various provinces of China wrote an essay in Russian and presented a video showing their reading of Russian poems and songs. There were only 30 people in the final round. The pupils made a speech in Russian on a given topic from the stage, then answered the questions of the members of the jury, and, finally, presented a variety turn in Russian. The contest winner was a high school pupil Zhang Haya from the city of Harbin. The schoolboy received a grant in the amount of about 46 thousand dollars (300 thousand yuans), which will allow him to study at one the faculties of MSU on his choice. The finalists, who took the prize (second and third) places, as well as the holders of ten consolation prizes for creative competition, also received grants to study at Russian universities. Each of them can expect to be paid for training programs costing up to 3 thousand dollars (about 20 thousand yuans).
