First Circular V European Conference on Ecological Modelling: Russia, Pushchino, 2005

Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the European Branch of International Society of Ecological Modelling (ISEM) and Organizing Committee we would like to invite you to participate in the 5th European Conference on Ecological Modelling (ECEM5) during 1923 September 2005 in Pushchino, Moscow Region, Russia. As with previous 4th European Conference on Ecological Modelling, which was held in Bled, Slovenia in September 2004, this conference will emphasize the newest developments throughout the various topics of ecological modeling and will include all aspects of basic and applied research in ecological modelling. The international character of ECEM 2005 will help to broaden our scientific horizons and facilitate and strengthen personal contacts with colleagues between western and eastern European countries and throughout the world. We especially encourage young scientists to participate; the registration fee for students has been kept as low as possible. The scientific contents and significance of ECEM 2005 are determined by contributions from the participants. We cordially invite you, therefore, to present your newest research results at this international forum and to interact with colleagues during discussions and coffee breaks. The city of Pushchino, population 20,000, is located 120 kilometers to the South of Moscow on the bank of the Oka River. The city was founded in 1962 as home to Pushchino Biological Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Pushchino Research Center was created for the express purpose of bringing together a diverse research community to focus on current applied as well as fundamental problems in biology. This interdisciplinary approach was reflected in the make-up of the research faculty at the Center: from the beginning, 30% were biologists, while the remaining 70% were physicists, chemists, mathematicians, engineers and other research scientists. At the moment Pushchino Research Center includes 10 institutes including Institute of Basic Problems in Biology, Institute of Mathematical Problems in Biology, Institute of Physicochemical and Biological Problems in Soil Science and some others. From the city's very beginning the citizens of Pushchino took an active part in the planning of the city to preserve the natural beauty of the landscape and create a clean, healthy and convenient city. Pushchino offers excellent conditions for outdoor recreation in the surrounding forests and on the Oka River. We wish you a stimulating, productive, and successful conference as well as a pleasant stay!

Conference Chairs: Prof. Alexander S.Komarov (Russia) Prof. Tarzan Legovi, Vice-President ISEM (Croatia)
