Последние новости по изучению кудрявого пеликана в Турции

I am writing to you to inform you about the latest news in Dalmatian
Pelican (Pelecanus crispus) research and conservation in Turkey. As you
may probably know Dalmatian Pelican is a globally threatened species listed
as VU by IUCN. However with recent conservation measures made in Greece,
Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria, the population has shown a gradual but slow
increasing trend around the region. Nonetheless, there are lots of impeding
factors negatively affecting and threatening the species and therefore this
slow increasing trend almost totally depends on conservation efforts.
We have been colour ringing Dalmatian Pelicans in Gediz Delta Turkey for
about more than 25 years. 3 years ago we have started to ring and monitor
all the Breeding population in Turkey with an aim to identify their
migration strategies, home range, population dynamics and the threats.
Besides, To be able to get more information about the Aktas population and
their migration strategies, we have been ringing the chicks there since 3
years, with blue coloured rings. This year we have added a new step to
monitor this population. As you may all possibly know, the lake Aktas is
located on the border between Turkey and Georgia. And the breeding pelicans
there, are much more representing (we believe) the Central Asia populations
than the eastern Europe populations. We tagged a total of 4 Dalmatian
Pelicans with 2 GPS/GSM and 2 ARGOS GSM patagial transmitters. The tagging
was done in July 12 (ie. 12 days ago). The tagged birds have winged tags on
their both wings (onto which the transmitters are mounted) and the tags are
white coloured with black writings with codes "TR 1", "TR 2", "TR 3", and
"TR 4" for the 4 birds respectively.
After tagging the birds I stayed a whole week in the study area so that I
could interfere in case any kind unwanted casualty and or unwanted
observation might have occurred. They have been very well since the
beginning of the study and wondering around the lake as usual. Now the
birds are in very good in condition and fledged totally and have recently
started to fly and wonder around region. Enclosed you can find the
pictures of the tagged birds. My communication information are stated both
the transmitters and under the wing tags, in case someone find them for
some reasons.
We hope that the birds will survive long and transmitters will provide us
crucial data for the future conservation studies. However, the safety of
these birds will also depend on your contributions. Please DO FORWARD this
email to your colleagues, to the BirdLife Partners and other conservation
NGO's, related staff of the governmental institutions working in the Middle
East and in the West and South of Asia.
Our next aim is to try to determine and investigate the gene flow from the
different breeding grounds of Dalmatian Pelicans almost throughout the
Western Palearctic, Hopefully we will get some inside second half of this
year.
