- .. akishin@hep.sinp.msu.ru The problems caused by charging on satellites have been compared to other environmental effects. Some of the main results of this study are summarized in Table I, which indicates that satellite charging is responsible for more than half of the documented environment related anomalies. The study results also showed, that electrostatic discharges caused about 50% of the lost or terminated missions associated with environmental effects. Thus, the issue of satellite charging is very serious from the perspective of the threat it poses for satellites in the inner magnetosphere.
