Opto-acoustic excitation in three-layered system quartz substrate ­ metal film ­ liquid Diploma thesis abstract

The direct problem o f optoacoustics for a system, consisted o f a metal film coating on a transparent substrate and immersed into a liquid, is solved. The influence of a film coating thickness on the efficiency of optoacoustic excitat ion is analyzed. Two detection schemes are considered: the forward mode (the system is irradiated through the substrate, an acoustic signal is detected in a liquid) and the backward (the system is irradiated through the liquid, an acoustic signal is detected at the same side). The transfer funct ions o f optoacoustic excitat ion for both detection modes were calculated analyt ically. The energy thresho ld of neglect ing thermal nonlinearit y effects during thermooptical excitat ion o f ultrasound was estimated. Experimental study was performed wit h three chrome coatings o f different thickness o n quartz substrate. Acetone and ethano l were used as immersio n liquids. Based on the co mpariso n of experimentally obtained and theoretically calculated transfer funct ions the possibilit y o f submicron metal coating thickness determinat ion is demonstrated.
