VALIDATION OF THE FEPE CALCULATION FOR A DETECTION SYSTEM COMPOSED OF TWO -DETECTORS USING SPHERICAL SOURCES Mohamed. S. Badawi, Mohamed. E. Krar, Ahmed. M. El -Khatib Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Alexandria University, 21511 Alexandria, Egypt This paper investigates the validity of extending the efficiency transfer technique (ET) to accommodate detection systems composed of more than one detector (Two NaI(Tl) detectors). To obtain the full-energy peak efficiency (FEPE), the effective solid angles subtended by an arbitrary located point source as well as an arbitrary located volumetric spherical source derived. Th e detector active volume, the source matrix, the source containe r and the end-caps of the detectors were considered. Results were compared with those measured by a combination of two cylindrical NaI(Tl) detectors of different volumes (3" x 3" & 2" x 2") with resolution (FWHM) at 662 keV equal to 7.5% and 8.5% respectiv ely. Measurements were made using 152Eu aqueous radioactive spherical sources covering the energy range from 121 keV up to 1408 keV. The comparison between the calculated and the measured full-energy peak efficiency values reveal good agreement.
