Today, international film co-production is an important trend in global film industry development. Despite the increasingly prominent role of international co-production around the world, growing since the early 1990s, the existing literature pays little attention to this phenomenon and is mainly focused on studying national film industries.
The practice of organizing, funding and managing the co-production process has not yet been formed in Russia. There is no definition or criteria for international film co-production projects. At the same time, Russia is a member of the European Convention on Cinematography and has a number of intergovernmental agreements on film co-production with foreign countries.
The author formulates the definition of international film co-production, describes the legal basis for co-production projects and the preconditions of development of the co-production phenomenon, as well as the benefits of co-production.
