This article analyzes the activities of the National Center for Scientific Research, CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), which is the largest organization in France financing and providing fundamental and applied research across the wide spectrum of scientific fields. The main activities of CNRS, its structure and peculiarities of the scientific expertise of funded projects are explored. The authors also examine the international aspects of the activities of the Center and come to the conclusion that the main objectives of the Center’s international cooperation include spreading information about its activities abroad and attracting foreign scientists and students.
