This article is dedicated to the attempted assassination of German ambassador, Franz Von Papen, in Ankara on 24th February 1942, which was arranged by NKVD members, and examines the attitude of Turkish press towards this incident. The information was retrieved from Turkish and Soviet archives, as well as from the memoirs of Soviet intelligence officers. The assassination attempt was one of the crucial factors determining Turkey’s foreign policy during the World War II. The Turkish-Soviet relationships were rather tense at that period, and the situation was aggravated by the verdict of Turkish court. This incident contributed into growing misunderstanding between Turkey and the USSR after the end of the war.
