The Issues of Strategic Communication in Global Politics Discussed in St. Petersburg

The article presents a review of the Second International Forum “Russia and Ibero-America in the globalizing world: history and contemporaneity” and the research seminar “Strategic communication in world politics: theory and practice” in St. Petersburg. At the first event, a wide range of economic and political issues in Ibero-Аmerican countries, in particular, the psychological warfare were discussed. This issue was presented at the panel “Psychological warfare in contemporary world and Latin America”, with fifteen papers and a discussion. The second event focused on strategic communication. Speeches at the research seminar aimed to understand the nature and level of information threats in global politics and international relations. Among the topics covered at the seminar were: “Strategic communication in the context of mass communication: theoretical aspects”; “Elements of strategic communication in counter-terrorism activities in the European Union”; “Big data, nudge technologies, predictive weapons: new opportunities and risks of strategic communication”; “Practical aspects of the implementation of the strategic communication of Russia in Latin America at the stage of exacerbation of international situation”; “The role of information technologies in political practice and diplomacy of Russia and the United States”; “Public diplomacy of Russia: transformation of the instrument of «soft power» in strategic communication”, “Twitter diplomacy: opportunities for strategic communication”, “About the possibility of creating an algorithm for self-defense against manipulative impacts”, etc.
