Courses

General information

Since 1994 "Computer graphics" is a mandatory course for all students in our department. Since 2005 members of our lab teach elective courses on main research directions, including computer vision, video processing and photorealistic computer graphics. In 2007 we launch our own web system "http://courses.graphicon.ru" that provide web support for our courses. Members of our lab also teach courses at Yandex School for Data Analysis.

Computer graphics
Lecturers: Dr. Alexey Ignatenko, Dr. Anton Konushin, Dr. Alexey Lukin, Dr. Dmitriy Vatolin.

Course program include human optical system, color and light modeling, basic image processing and analisis, basics of signal processing, rendering pipeline, OpenGL, introduction to shaders, global illumination, ray tracing and radiosity methods.

Introduction to computer vision
Lecturer: Dr. Anton Konushin

In this intoductory course basic methods and algorithms of computer vision are presented. Course program includes image formation process, image filtering, image segmentation, local features detection and matching, robust fitting methods, introduction to machine learning, image categorization, object detection, image retrieval, large image collections, optical flow estimation, background subtraction, object tracking, action recognition, computer vision for augmented reality, pose estimation in Microsoft Kinect. Course is accompanied by several practical tasks.

Topics in computer vision
Lecturer: Dr. Anton Konushin

Course program includes introduction to Markov random fields and application to computer vision, semantic image segmentation, face recognition, part-based object detection, multi-camera geometry, structure from motion, binocular and multi-view dense stereo, single-view 3D reconstruction.

Medical image analysis
Lecturer: Dr. Olga Senyukova

This course is devoted to medical problems, involving image analysis, and state-of-the-art algorithms used for solving these problems. Besides basic algorithms for segmentation, feature extraction and description, algorithms based on machine learning are presented. Also, image matching, or registration algorithms, that play an important role in medical image analysis, are presented. The course is accompanied by the practical task where the students are free in choosing the algorithms.
