The algorithm presented here is a general acceleration algorithm for alternating and monotone scalar sequences and series. It is based on Levin's и transform with an added "optimal" stopping capability based on estimates of the truncation and round-off errors. (The и transform was actually published much earlier by Bickley and Miller, but it was essentially ignored until its rediscovery by Levin and subsequent determinations of its widespread usefulness by various authors.)
