The paper considers the problem of the genesis of Cretaceous paleoceanic deposits built by rhythmic packets of jasper and limestone from the Smagin Suite of the Kamchatsky Mys Peninsula. Two alternative models are proposed to explain the origin of this association which invoke either periodic volcanism or climatic oscillations.
