The article is devoted to basic social functions of russian middle class, such as ideological, mythological, stabilization, innovative, identity construction. Ability of this element of social structure to be a modernization motive power, the subject of modernist consciousness is analyzed. The generalized image of middle class functioning in mass-media, in communicative space of Russia is considered as the factor of consolidation of the middle class in the uniform generality promoting successful realization of social functions of middle class.
