The goal of this project is 1) to develop a novel class of nanoscale biocatalytic complexes for therapeutic and diagnostic applications and 2) to enhance research infrastructure at M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) by establishing a world-class ?Laboratory in Chemical NanoMedicine? (LCNM)? in the Department of Chemistry, with trained staff of domestic researchers supported by a Nano-Biomaterial Characterization Core facility.
This project will evaluate the nanozyme technology as a platform for preparation of several enzyme-based prototype therapeutcs and theranostics that address the challenges of 1) delivering enzymes to the CNS, 2) stabilizing enzymes in the body; 3) prolonging enzyme shelf-life; and 4) simultaneous therapy and molecular imaging in a single application.
Towards this goal a rational approach will be taken to develop 1) new antioxidant nanozymes and multi-enzyme complexes as anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective agents; 2) hydrolytic nanozyme for organophosphate and pesticide scavenging; 3) bacteriolytic nanozymes as potential antibacterial agents, and 4) nanozymes with embedded magnetic nanoparticles for theranostic use. These studies will be supported by 5) establishing the Nano-Biomaterial Characterization Core Facility.
