Technical University of Karlsruhe (TUK, Germany) - Lomonosov Moscow State
University (MSU, Russia) Program "ZO IV - Understanding and application of
complex systems"
Guidelines for Participants

(1) Young scientists from Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) may apply
who are either Ph.D. Students or who obtained a PhD no longer than two
years prior to application.

(2) Applications - in English or German - should include:

(a) CV,

(b) records (transcripts and graduation certificates),

(c) list of publications,

(d) a letter of recommendation by the Russian supervisor of the PhD
project

(e) a one-page proposal describing the intended research to be
performed at the University of Karlsruhe.

Sufficient knowledge in English or German language is a pre-requisite for
participation in the programme.

The application should be sent via the Head of the MSU faculty to the UK
chairman of the bilateral programme, who will consider the formal and
institutional aspects and then will forward the application to the intended
German supervisor.

Approval of the Karlsruhe board of supervisors is necessary for acceptance
into the programme.



(3) Within the program, the MSU PhD student or postdoc will receive a grant
of 1103 Euro per month, free of taxes, for living expenses. From the grant,
health insurance has to be covered. Payment of the scholarship does not
establish an employment.

Expenses for flight and rail to Karlsruhe and back have to be met by the
Russian partner.

The regular duration of a stay is 1 year. Extension of the stay is possible
upon request of the German supervisor.



(4) PhD students or postdocs funded by the programme are obliged to inform
the German supervisor about the progress of the work upon request, e.g., by
giving a presentation in the seminar of the hosting institute. At the end
of the funding period, a written report of about 5 pages describing the
activities and results obtained during the stay in Karlsruhe is due by the
date of departure at the latest.
