Abstracts, Presentations and Publications
Invited keynote speakers will introduce each of the conference topics and summarise the current knowledge as well as raising issues to focus on in future studies. They will be followed by short oral presentations. These presentations and the conference language is English. Abstracts Abstracts should not comprise more than 250 words. Please include: title, authors (underline presenter if oral), department, address, telephone and e-mail of a contact person. The abstract should be sent by e-mail to Janis.Sire@lu.lv. Please send the abstract as an attachment in a separate e-mail stating "abstract" and your name in the e-mail heading. MS Word or rtf format is preferred. Alternatively floppy disk may be sent to the programme committee by regular post. Presentations There will be both oral and poster presentations at the conference. Upon submission of the registration form please indicate if you prefer an oral talk or poster, and which of the five topics the presentation is aimed for: Topic Topic Topic Topic Topic 1: 2: 3: 4: 5: Structural aspects of natural organic matter Occurrence and role of natural organic matter in terrestrial systems Occurrence and role of natural organic matter in aquatic systems Potential of practical application of humic substances Interaction of natural organic matter with nutrients and xenobiotics

If the number of desired oral presentations exceeds the time available, the programme committee reserves the right to select which ones will be presented orally. Oral Total time 20 min, 15 min talk plus 5 min discussion. Video projector with connected PC (MS Power Point 2000), slide and overhead projectors will be provided.


Poster Maximum 70 x 100 cm (A0) in size and in portrait format. In addition, colleagues who visit your poster probably appreciate a handout that is more detailed than your poster. Posters are to be mounted with pushpins.

Publications Papers from symposium will be considered for Proceedings of University of Latvia. Please read The number of articles is limited for each journal. the rights to select manuscripts for possible manuscripts will be subjected to peer review. Manuscripts These should be prepared in accordance with the guidelines of Proceedings of University of Latvia. Complete manuscripts including paper original, copies and computer disk (MS Word or rtf format is preferred) should be submitted, at the latest, on the first day of the conference at the conference desk or directly to Janis Sire. Manuscripts submitted after that date will not be considered. It is also possible to send it to the programme committee in advance. Please indicate on your registration form if you intend to submit a manuscript. Conference participants will be asked to review submitted papers, your help will be highly appreciated. Maps Transportation Bus

Bus No.22, which leaves from Abrenes Street, has direct services between the airport and the city centre. You will get out straight at the terminal on the 2nd level. To get on the bus at the airport look for bus stop located opposite the terminal behind the car park. Frequency 10 ­ 30 minutes from 5:30 a.m. to 10:40 p.m. Journey time about 30 minutes. Fare 0.20 LVL. Bus No.22A connects the airport with hotels in the centre of Riga. Several hotels provide shuttle service to and from the airport. Taxi The airport has signed contract on taxi services with Riga Taxi Park. The company office is located on the 1st level of arrival area. Working hours adjusted to flight schedule. Telephone +371 7207509. Journey time to the centre of the city is 15 minutes. Charge 0.40 LVL plus 0.35 per kilometre. Getting to the centre of the city would cost about 5 LVL.
