NEW YEAR'S SPEECH of Russian Rectors' Union President, Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Vice-President of Russian Academy of Sciences, academician V.A. Sadovnichiy Dear Colleagues! Dear Friends!
We are standing on the threshold of 2011. I believe that it will show each of us new horizons of professional achievements and personal success! Traditionally, the threshold of a new year is the time of coming to conclusions and considering of plans for the future. One can say with certainty that the past year was an important and productive one for all of us. We managed to go a long way in the discussion regarding the draft Federal law "On education" ­ rectors' corporation expressed the opinion of civil society regarding this issue and confirmed the fulfillment of its high mission of serving society. From now onwards, it is important to us to justify confidence of Russian people in our concern for the future of education. One of the inestimable achievements of the past year has become the preservation of unity of the higher school corporation of Russia. Rectors' Union managed to suggest such forms of higher school system development, which, considering its innovation character, preserve the common educational space, respect for the history of the higher school institutions, understanding of their goals in regions of presence. Today we are united by the fact that successful development of the higher school system is based on understanding of the unique role of each higher school institution for development of our country. And intensification of our integration in 2011 will give an impulse to new quality of the higher school institutions' development. In the past year Russia Rectors' Union delegations visited Kamchatka, Khabarovsky Krai, Krasnoyarsk and Magnitogorsk. Meetings with higher school community at the local level have become the inestimable experience, which allowed us to "synchronize the watches", discuss problems, and formulate plans for collaboration. But the most important achievement of these meetings is the strengthened certainty that the higher school corporation is still strongly concerned about the future of its work: about science and education of Russia, about forming of the future generations - about common victories, which were always based on our unity. I am wishing you mutual understanding and respect in the relationships with the students, taking care of whom remains our invariable priority. Let the high dialogue of corporations of professors, teachers and students serve as an example of close collaboration for society and become the essential condition of new victories.
