The laboratory was accredited by the Committee of Russian Federation on Standartization, Metrology and Certification (Gosstandart RF) in November 1993 for dioxin and dioxin-like compounds analysis and was registered in Register of the System (ROSS. RU. 0001.510021). The laboratory participates annually in the International qualification tests.

The main direction of research in the Laboratory is development of the methods of ‘trace’ and ‘ultra-trace’ analysis of priority pollutants in the environment, including humans and wildlife. New analytical procedures and facilities were developed for dioxins and other environmental pollutants. Widespread investigations were carried out on the pollution level of some regions and sites, dioxin behavior in the environment and remediation ways of polluted soils.

Objects studying are various pollutants in ecosphere: polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD), dibenzofurans (PCDF), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), other dioxin-like compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), persistent organic pollutants (POPs), phenols, components of chemical weapon and other organic compounds and also heavy metals.
