Top ological toric theory Mikiya Masuda Osaka City University, Japan e-mail: masuda@sci.osaka-cu.ac.jp The theory of toric varieties was established in 1970's. It can be thought of as a bridge connecting algebraic geometry and combinatorics. But one can develop the theory purely in terms of topology to some extent, and it turns out that there is an analogous (expanded, in some sense) bridge between topology and combinatorics. I will discuss the connection between topology and combinatorics.
