Zhores Alferov - Science is the basis of human civilization

It was almost impossible to get into the assembly hall of SSAU on July 31 as it was completely filled with people willing to listen to the lecture of Nobel laureate and the academician of Russian Academy of Science Zhores Alferov.
Being the honored doctor of SSAU Zhores Alferov has already performed several lectures in SSAU. This time the lecture was devoted to analysis of breakthrough technologies of the 20th century. Zhores Alferov distinguished seven breakthrough concepts: nuclear weapon and power, jet engines and aerospace technologies, development of computers, invention of transistor, invention of laser, development of silicon chip and heterostructure – the basis of modern information technologies, genetics revolution and new medicine technology. Through the analysis of each concept the honored doctor of SSAU talked about the scientists and fundamental theories, which allowed making a breakthrough.
