The 3rd Autumn forum of volunteers in MGU.
Last weekend the chemical faculty of MGU held the Autumn forum of volunteers from Russian
organization "World4U". The university students and visitors from abroad discussed actual
problems of science and life.
In particular, the problems under discussion were "The disablement: a way for understanding",
"Theater of toleration", "How to create a volunteer project".
The most important thing is that members of "World4U" realize they are a
truly powerful organization. That's why so many people - not only students but
retired pensioners and housewives want to join them!

Ecological challenges.
Scientists from all over the world came to MGU to discuss ecological problems
The propitious weather stipulates life of every country and nation. Unfortunately,
the weather's mood gets worse and worse each year. Last summer almost 15000 people
died of heat in France, the tornadoes and hurricanes keep on killing people in America
and Japan. The temperature on the Earth has heightened by 0.6 degrees during last 100 years.
The specialists who gathered in Moscow say that there is no need to panic yet, but the
government must draw much more attention to this problem and shouldn't save on people's
health and new researches in this field. The human life is the most important thing.
This problem is discussed a lot by the MGU students this week as well. On the Round Table
with the famous scientists the students asked a lot of questions that amazed even
the experienced academicians. Now they are sure that the young generation will be
able to solve at least ecological problems.
Twice a profession.
The MGU gives new opportunities to the students and all interested people.
Since 2003 academic
year
the graduates of the MGU (and other universities) can become professional teachers
of the subject that they study at their faculty. All the students who become teachers
after graduation confront with difficulties - they haven't had enough skills and pedagogical
knowledge. The Russian Ministry of Education decided to inaugurate the additional course
called "Teacher" on each faculty. The course includes the basic instruction methods and
psychological skills. After this course student becomes a qualified professional. It allows
anyone to teach at any educational institution. If you want to get such certificate you have
to pay for tuition (the whole course is $300). The classes are to start at the 22nd of October.
A fundamental library to be open at MGU in 2 years.
Moscow University leaves a message to descendants.
A ceremony of laying a memorable capsule with the message to descendants was carried out at
the Moscow University. The capsule was laid in the foundation of the library to be built on
Vorobyevy hills. Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov and MSU rector Viktor Sadovnichy took part in this
action.
The building will cover 55 thousand sq. meters.
The library will accommodate several reading halls, 3 lecture
halls for over 1,5 thousand students, the museum of MSU books
and the underground book depository. The library building will
be connected with the main building by an underpass.
Lectures after V. Vinogradov to be read at the philological department.
The philological department will carry out scientific lectures in honor of the famous
Russian linguist Vladimir Vinogradov. He was born in Zaraysk on the 12th of January,
and during his life he wrote about 30 books on philology.

The President takes part in the MGU session
The 7th All-Russian Rectors' Council Congress has passed in the Moscow State University.
Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared there. The president emphasized in his speech
that attracting foreign students to study at Russian universities is a priority for
Russian educational system.
New specialization at the journalistic department.
MSU philological department hosted an International Conference
"Contemporary textbook of Russian for foreigners: practice and theory".
About 160 participants and guests took part in this congress.

Museum of substitutes for modern money to be opened at MSU.
Students of historical department of the Moscow State University are thinking over
the possibility to create a Museum of substitutes for modern money. The collection
will include for example "election money", that is, money paid to buy votes on the
elections.
